The Foscarini Tress Stilo is an extraordinary floor lamp creating highlights inside every room. The diffuser of the Tress Stilo is made of Tress which is a network out of ribbons and resin giving structure and depth to this luminaire. An interesting composition between light and shade is created through the interplay of filled and empty parts. Like all luminaires out of the Foscarini Tress series the Tress Stilo is available in white and black.
Tress was developed over al long period of time and underwent various phases of development despite the fact that the material the same is as that used for Twiggy, another Foscarini icon created in partnership with Marc. Our idea was to use a ribbon instead of a sheet and to bind it with a process know as ‚rowing’ with studied casualness. Tress creates a unique warm magical atmosphere that enriches the whole room. Colour also transforms its personality: the white version renders it light and discrete the black version makes it strong and decisive while the red version transforms it into a volcanic totem-like object with an even more striking contrast between the inside and outside. Tress is a multiple interweaving of meanings: exciting to discover and wonderful to experience.
Tress is a study in material, form and light. One of the aims of the design was to create a dual effect with two light sources that can be turned on separately. A light source from below illuminates the whole light from within and underlines the graphic effect of the weave projecting designs of shade and signals of light. The internal surface appears much clearer than the external one which creates further contrast. An upper light source emanates llight towards the ceiling to light the whole space.
There has always been something mysterious about a woman’s plated hair. It is a signal a rite an enigma to be solved. Tress is a kind of plait and this light is an interweaving of fibreglass and rein that becomes a structure, a decoration and a screen. Simple? No. Intriguing? Yes.
